In Just Our Heart, Emmy-nominated director Maartje Nevejan (Couscous & Cola, Descending the Mountain, Ik ben er even niet) explores grief not as something that must be overcome, but as a force that can open, deepen, and transform hearts. The documentary follows five women who, through various rituals, guide others through loss, grief, and personal, ecological, and historical pain.
The documentary follows women who approach grief as a shared experience, rooted in social, ecological, and historical contexts. Science, spirituality, art, and activism flow into one another in the process. Psychologist Dr. Débora González conducts groundbreaking research into the role of the psychoactive drink ayahuasca in complex grief. Theatre maker Barbara Raes guides children who have lost their parents through play and symbolism.
